Looking for an evening out
that doesn't cost a ton of money?
This popular darts club has openings for a number of new members of all ages and
abilities,
even absolute beginners, who are willing to turn up every week on a Tuesday and
play.
Our next darts season will start early September, running up to Xmas, and is
quite suitable
for both couples and singles.
We play in the La Coquille and Thiviers area.
The games are properly organised and modest trophies and medals
can be won across various events.
You don't have to be an experienced darts player - participating is more
important than winning.

Looking for music venues!
I spent my younger life
as a professional singer/songwriter/guitarist and have recently started
performing again in a duo. We are in the pop/rock/country-ish vein, plenty of
old favourites and some more modern stuff too. We have done several local "open
mic" sessions in our area of north-west Creuse and always go down really
well! We would like to find some lively new venues, probably a bit further
afield. If anyone can recommend a good place, please let me know.
The
Société de Concours Hippiques de Pompadour are organising from 15
-19th July the 6th annual Horse Collection Dressage competition.
This competition was 9th in the world classification
for 2006-7 and Pompadour was awarded the top prize by the Astley
Academy for organising a Dressage competition in 2008.
For this final stage of the French tour after that
of Vierzon, some 20 countries have been invited to participate and
so far 12 have confirmed. There are five levels of competition
from Ponies up to the highest level of dressage competition, all
of which will take place in the magnificent facilities of the
Haras of Pompadour in Correze.
Renowned professional riders and national teams
will compete as well as juniors who may well develop into the
highest levels in years to come.
Access for spectators is free and you are invited
to wander at will throughout all the parkland and stables. There
is a commercial village on the site and also restaurant
facilities. Novices and specialists are able to take advantage of
cassettes for listening to the detailed commentaries for each
stage of the competitions.
This is a high class event and anyone who has the
slightest interest in equestrian activities will find the events
to be stimulating and entertaining.

Lessons
every two weeks, dances throughout the year - come and join! . . . .
What is traditional French folk music and dance?
Many of you will have seen the nice ladies and gentlemen
at the Fetes in their flowery dresses and waistcoats performing a colourful
display - but this is very much a historical reenactment of folk dancing at
the beginning of the last century.
What we do is very much more up to date - and fancy dress
is not required!
The membership fees for Cadanse Folk are as follows:
Adult = 40 Euros per year;
Couples = 60 Euros per year.
The membership fee covers the hire of the hall, expenses
for bands and dance teachers and subsidises the various events which are
organised throughout the year - good value!

Wendy and Lucy 2008 80mins
Genre: Drama
Director: Kelly Reichardt
Cast: Michelle Williams
Michelle Williams
plays Wendy, who is desperately driving up to Alaska to find
work in a fish cannery. But her car breaks down irretrievably
somewhere in Oregon, and with little money and nowhere to
live, she is terrifyingly close to staying there forever as a
homeless person. Her only friend is Lucy, the golden retriever
she has taken along on this ill-starred trip. Williams is a
powerful performer, and this is a powerful subject: how people
on society's margins can slither down, irreversibly, into
poverty.

Clues lead them all around the Vatican, including the four

working for the Illuminati, has captured four cardinals, and
murders each, painfully. Robert and Vittoria also are
searching for a new very destructive weapon that could kill
millions.

Coraline 2009 100
mins
Genre: 3D
animation / Fantasy
Director: Henry
Selick
Voiced by: Dawn
French, Jennifer Saunders, Dakota Fanning
This enjoyable
creepy
animation fantasy in 3D is from Henry Selick, who
directed The Nightmare Before Christmas, and does a similar
job on this movie, adapted from a book by Neil Gaiman.
Coraline, voiced by Dakota Fanning, is a bored
13-year-old who discovers a secret door in the house that her
parents have rented. It takes her to a weirdo
alternative-universe that at first seems much nicer - before
its full horror is revealed. Some scary fun.
A has-been
professional wrestler heads back into the ring with hopes of
staging a comeback. The director makes Rourke, who as a
self-destructive ex-boxer knows the worlds of sport and
loserdom from the inside, dig deep in what one might call a
fallen-star vehicle. It’s shot documentary style, on a
shoestring, with terrific performances from Marisa Tomei as
the stripper he loves and Evan Rachel Wood as his estranged,
embittered daughter giving authenticity. But the most potent
truth here comes from the wrecked, likeable, touching Rourke
himself – he makes The Wrestler unmissable.

Those who suffer from depression know only too well the desperate feeling of
isolation the illness can bring.
The self help group (GEM) has been set up to help those with mental health
problems to meet others in similar situations and share problems and
experiences.
The P.R.I.S.M. association. (Prevention, reintegration, information in mental
health), chaired by the doctor Emile Roger Lombertie, has a branch of GEM in
Limoges and Saint-Junien, and building on the success of these groups will be
opening a new session
at Saint-Yrieix La Perche
In partnership with the C.H. Esquirol and the UNAFAM (national Union of the
friends and the family of psychic patients), GEM has been set up to help those
who suffer from psychological troubles and offer them ideas on ways to break the
isolation.
The group provide ideas and strategies to help
members to overcome the day to day difficulties brought about by their illness.
It is believed around a quarter of the population of Limousin seek help from
psychiatrist services or have psychological problems at some time in their
lives.

The group is the brain child of
Dutch couple Frans and Toke Verschuren, who, when thy moved to the town nearly
18 months ago, struggled at first to find much of the information they needed to
establish them in their new life.
The aim is to set up an International English speaking group helping newcomers
and established people in the town of St Yrieix and its surrounding villages.
Apart from the
British, it is hoped that local French and Dutch people will be joining too,
enabling everyone to benefit from an exchange of language and culture.
The general
monthly "meetings" will initially take the form of a casual drop in for coffee
and a chat and will be driven by "user demand".
From this a range
of activities will be developed to cater for the varying and individual
interests of the group.
Connect for Friendship (Connectff)
Association
Owing to its increasing popularity and ever increasing
attendance, the Connect for friendship association (Connectff) has now

of each month starting at 10 am and continuing on until noon.
See web site for information on meetings and location
The Book Club
will meet on the 3rd Friday of each month at
“Le Cheval Blanc”, St Yrieix, commencing 10.30am for coffee and
hopefully, lively discussion on the book of the month.
This will be
followed by lunch for any one wishing to stay.

Vocal coaching intensive weekends
If you
think an intensive weekend is for you, we offer a custom service to help. We are
easy to reach and flights are often very cheap. Unfortunately we can't
accommodate you, but we can find you local accommodation and ferry you back and
forth at the end of the day.
We
have a huge variety of repertoire including all the singers' anthologies and

weekend would be flexible. If you would like, we can also record you for
evaluation and/or arrange to record some of the sessions for your reference.
You
would be welcome to come alone or share the weekend with a friend at a
discounted rate. The weekend need not be strictly a weekend, where possible we
will try to accommodate alternative dates. However, unless we agree differently
the course would be arrival on a Friday, coaching 2 x 2 hour sessions Saturday
and Sunday, return on Monday. Flight times do change but this would work for
most of the year. The nearest airport to us is Limoges (flights Ryanair and
Flybe). There is a variety of local accommodation. If you tell us what you would
like we can either book it for you or you are welcome to book for yourself.
The
price would include airport pick-up and daily transport, lunch with us, 4 x 2
hour sessions and any cd's etc as a result of recording. The price excludes
flights and accommodation. We can provide an evening meal if requested.
From
Bellegarde International Airport you can fly over the local hills, valleys,
lakes and mountains. Each trip can be a different experience with breathtaking
views every time. You can fly over your house or just see the area from a
different perspective.
NearlyHeaven
is the perfect place to start or continue your training.
We offer introductory, conversion and Private
Pilot's Licence (PPL) courses provided by our own English lady Flying
Instructor who is fully approved by the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA)
and the Direction Générale de l'Aviation Civile (DGAC) to conduct
English-language training in the UK and France. Sue is also a CAA
authorised Flight examiner and Ground School examiner. So, in short, you can
take all of your exams in English with Sue in France.
We live and
work in the Dordogne, South West France. Set midway between
Angoulême, capital of the Charente and Périgueux the capital
of the Dordogne, and, in our humble opinion, one of the most beautiful
parts of France.
The setting of my atelier “l’ame du bois” is spectacular with uninterrupted
panoramic views and an abundance of wild life. We are in the flight path of the
Grue(cranes) and, you can see these massive flocks of migrating birds in early
Spring going North to the Baltic and late autumn going South to Spain
for the Winter. We are also with buzzards, kites and other birds of prey. Red
squirrels, deer and sanglier (wild boar) occasionally make their presence known.
All courses are
informal, hands on, one-to-one and aimed at your particular interests for you,
the student. The pace of the course is to suit you, nobody else.
