Long term rentals
One of the first things most people want to
do when they decide to move to France is 'find a
long term rental' while they check out an area and buy a house,
however, finding details of long term lettings can be very difficult if you
are trying to do it from outside France.
We have been through this experience and want to help so within this website
you will find a variety of properties available to house hunters or those
wishing to experience the French culture prior to taking that final step.
'Long term rental' for house hunters generally means anything from one to six months or sometimes longer if they cannot find the right property to buy.
Normal French owned rentals are usually for 3 years on a contract with the owner and are handled mostly by Immobiliers or estate agents. Generally these are unfurnished except for a bathroom and a sink. You will need to give around three months notice if you want to leave.
Please be aware that it is not easy to find a long term rental during the summer season.
Most of the properties you will find for rent here are only going to be available for the winter period, often this is October to April. This is due to the fact that they are holiday homes in the summer. In general, they are furnished and include most common appliances. It is advisable to check that you will have adequate heating if you are renting in winter.
It is usual for ovens to run on bottled gas, freely available at most supermarket garages. If the property has a swimming pool it will not usually be available in winter. Not all properties have a telephone line installed, which means no internet, so you may need a mobile phone.
If you are taking electrical items to France do take plenty of adapters with you so that you can plug phones chargers, hairdryers etc. straight in. However, be aware that the power supply to some properties may not allow you to run every electrical appliance at the same time.
It is also usual for owners to ask for an amount of money, often equivalent to one month's rent (could be more) to hold as a damage/security deposit. This money is then refunded at the end of the rental assuming no damage and all bills settled.

The house ‘Macom’ is situated in Lambertie, a charming hamlet near the historic town of Rochechouart with its magnificent château. It is in the heart of undulating wooded hills, ponds and pastureland.
This, as yet, undiscovered region is ideal for country walks, cycling or just simply relaxing in the tranquillity of rural France and is perfectly placed for house hunters, being close to many English speaking estate agents in the local towns.
Macom is a beautifully converted Napoleonic farmhouse and barn that combines the local architectural features with modern comforts - sleeping eight +.

main door leads to a bright spacious converted barn with traditional
furniture of the region.
Two French windows lead onto a large patio facing the big open garden and orchard where you can watch and listen to wild life, or read and enjoy local wine.

Cottage located in the small hamlet of LA MARCHADERIE , which is a five-minute drive from the village of ST MATHIEU (60kms SW of LIMOGES), South Haute Vienne/Dordogne border.
The cottage has been recently
renovated and furnished to accommodate 6 people. It consists of a
kitchen/dining room, separate lounge (4 seater sofa, 2 seater sofa, 2
armchairs, coffee table and low level storage for books etc) with
CD/radio and English Satellite TV, 3 bedrooms (2 double both with
wardrobes, 1 twin), bathroom with shower, WC and vanity unit with hand
washbasin. Hot water is constantly available.
Property is insulated and double glazed in bedrooms and bathroom.
The equipment provided includes a washing machine, fridge/freezer, microwave oven plus all the normal cutlery, crockery and kitchen utensils. Cooking is by a 4-burner gas stove and oven. There is a garden with lawn and flowerbeds together with an outside patio area with garden furniture and BBQ. We can also supply a baby cot and high chair if required. Heating is supplied by a gas fire and electric radiators.
Some external storage available in barns.
Pets accepted by prior arrangement.

LOCATION: The pretty village of ST MATHIEU has a well-stocked supermarket that includes an English food section. It has banks, post office, bakers and newsagent/tabac There is a garage for car repairs etc. The village also has 2 doctors should you need them. A little further away (30 mins drive) is the town of ST JUNIEN which has the larger supermarkets and shopping precincts. The village of PIEGUT, which has a weekly market, is only 20 minutes away. The town of BRANTOME (known as the Venice of France) is about 45 mins drive. ANGOULEME is about a 1 hour drive and from here you can easily catch the TGV to PARIS, LILLE and onwards to the UK via Eurostar. LIMOGES airport is approx 50mins away and is served by the budget airlines Ryanair and Flybe going to London (Stansted), , East Midlands and Southampton.
